Robert A. Katin, PE/REA

Robert is an innovative, experienced Professional Engineer with over 27 years in operations, design, construction, and training for wastewater, chemical, refinery, nuclear, and environmental industries.

Robert has been published in more than a dozen professional journals and has extensive experience in site analysis and remediation including contaminated soil, ground water, and air with petroleum companies, chemical manufacturers, and other miscellaneous manufacturers. Some of his specific accomplishments are outlined below:

  • Previous waste disposal practices at a major chemical manufacturing complex in Texas had caused contamination at the site's landfill and drum storage areas, as well as at its surface impoundment ponds. A site characterization was conducted, and a detailed design was performed to treat the chlorinated solvent contamination in-situ utilizing vacuum extraction.

  • To comply with RCRA regulations, a major petroleum refinery in Montana required a site characterization. After that was completed, a Corrective Measures Study and Remedial Feasibility Investigation were conducted. The study recommended utilizing the entire refinery boundaries as one single Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU).

  • A major chemical company, which had stopped producing explosives, needed a disposal site to be cleaned. The on-site dump included 1,500 drums containing residue from the explosives manufacturing process. The waste was removed from the drums, neautralized, and incinerated. The drums were decontaminated and melted down and ground up.

  • Designed and oversaw permitting of several catalytic incineration units to effect final destruction of potentially hazardous gases. With this method, gases are oxidized to non-hazardous carbon dioxide and water.

  • Wrote Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans for a glass manufacturer in California.
